How qigong helps us ride this year's energy with ease andšwisdom.
On the 17th, the Year of the Horse arrived. This year is all about taking action, momentum and freedom. It carries a strong yang essence: active, fiery, and fast. That can feel inspiring - but without the yin essence: gentle, rest, and receptivity, it can also feel like being dragged by the horse instead of ridingšit.
Qigong offers a perfect way to balance these energies within us, so we may move forward with power WHILE staying grounded and centered.
Yin & Yang in Daily LifeāÆļø
Examples of each:
Yang qi: doing, pushing, planning, expressing
Yin qi: resting, receiving, feeling, listening
During the Year of the Horse, many of us feel theš§²pull to do more, go fast or change everything up. That's good energy to work with - as long as we're also creating pockets of yin to support it. Qigong instills in us that true strength isn't tense, but relaxed, grounded and responsive.
How Qigong Balances Yin & Yang Energiesāļø
With consistent, gentle practice, qigong helps you:
Ground the horse energy using slow,š flowing movements which calm the nervous system and anchor us, even as life speeds up.
Soften without collapsing you learn how to relax (yin) while staying awake and aware (yang).
Listenšwithin before taking action by PAUSING to feel your body and breathe providing clarity so your actions come from wisdom.
šæTry This Simple Qigong Reflection (seated or standing)
Arrive: Close your eyes for a breath or two and ask yourself: "Right now, am I more in doing mode or being mode?
Breathe into Balance:
Inhale through nose, feeling your spine lengthen (soft, uplifting yang)
Exhale out nose, letting your upper body softenš¼(yin melting in)
Set an Intention: Ask yourself "What would bring me a little more balance today?" It might be:
crossing your arms across your chest (mini heart hug) and taking 3 slow in and out breaths between tasks
going for a walk instead of pushing through another email
saying yes to a rest or no to an extra commitment
Riding the Year of the Horse withšHeart
This year encourages us to move forward, but not at the cost of our wellness or inner peace. When we balance yin and yang - feminine and masculine - softness and strength - our energy feels steady, joyful and inspired. Qigong gives us a way to practice providing balance in our body, mind and spirit. If you're curious about exploring this more deeply, practices like qigong and yoga are the ideal companions for the Year of the Horse - helping us to ride this powerful energy with graceš.
